We won! We won!
On Friday, October 9, the 17th Dot IE Net Visionary awards ceremony was held in Dublin. Udemy had been shortlisted for the “Best International Newcomer” award so three people from the Udemy Dublin office attended (Jenny Ryan, Paula Hatch, and Burak Bostancioglu) to represent the company. Here’s Jenny’s report on how the exciting festivities went down!
When we first arrived, there was a drinks reception where we got the opportunity to network and socialise with all the other shortlisted companies, companies sponsoring different award categories, and past winners. Before and during dinner, there were informative talks from the event organisers as well as some of the past winners that were centered around sharing information and advice with fellow colleagues in the aim to support the continued growth of the Irish technology industry.
The event was also sponsoring a great charity called Fighting Blindness, and a young man, Peter Ryan, shared his extremely inspiring story of competing in a Paralympics cycling event after losing his sight as a teenager. The event raised a large sum of money for this very worthy foundation.
When it came to the awards, we were so happy to be shortlisted in our first year of business in Ireland that we were all quite surprised — and obviously thrilled — when we actually won! All three of us went up on stage to collect the award and had our photos taken. There were some other very deserving winners, including;
- Yes Equality: The Campaign for Civil Marriage Equality, winner for Best Social Media Campaign
- Webdoctor, winner for Best Start-Up
- Turn2me.org, winner for Best Use of Technology for Social Good
Another award was presented for “Best Innovation for Education Services.” This year, PIXELSOUP won, but capturing this category is a new goal for Udemy next year!
