Udemy and McLaren Racing’s Global Partnership to Feature At Upcoming Tokyo E-Prix

Udemy-Branded NEOM McLaren Formula E Team Race Cars will participate at the inaugural Tokyo E-Prix, Round 5 of the 2023/24 FIA Formula E World Championship Season

Tokyo, Japan — Monday, March 18 — Udemy, a leading online skills marketplace and learning platform, announced key leaders will be attending the Tokyo E-Prix on March 30, along with Benesse, Udemy’s longtime business partner in Japan and customers from the region.

In November 2023, Udemy launched a multi-year partnership to become the Official Learning and Skills Partner of McLaren Racing, including the McLaren Formula 1 Team, Arrow McLaren IndyCar Team, NEOM McLaren Formula E Team and NEOM McLaren Extreme E Team.

At the Tokyo E-Prix, Udemy branding will be featured on the NEOM McLaren Formula E Team’s race cars, to be witnessed by fans across the globe. The partnership also includes a number of other key go-to-market initiatives intended to raise awareness of the Udemy brand and provide opportunities for Udemy to engage with customers, prospects, partners, and its instructor community globally.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government has committed to net zero CO2 emissions by 2050 as more countries respond to widespread environmental concerns. Enterprises worldwide are also confronted with a global directive to prioritize sustainability and create environment-friendly cities. In fact, a Udemy report highlighted the global focus on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) skills with a 3,128% increase in course consumption in 2023. ESG and climate change skills also surged 113% in demand in Q2 2023 as businesses leverage the Udemy platform to ensure they have the skills needed to work to address and avoid the negative consequences associated with climate change.

Ian James, Team Principal, NEOM McLaren Formula E Team, said:

“Operational excellence is something that we have really placed front and center of what is going to make us successful. To ensure that we can maximize our full potential, we need to continue to improve. We think learning helps us maintain a high-performing team with high purpose, and we know that partnering and learning with Udemy will help elevate us as a team.”

Genefa Murphy, Chief Marketing Officer, Udemy, said:

“The Udemy mission is to transform lives through learning, and McLaren similarly acknowledges that success on the racetrack starts internally. High performance is rooted in advancing cutting-edge and emerging skills that help teams continually grow. We have been working closely with the McLaren Racing team to offer more than 200,000 courses to select McLaren employees, and we look forward to seeing how this will translate into stellar team outcomes.”

This will be the first Formula E race in Tokyo, and will take place on public roads around Tokyo Big Sight. Each year, the number of electric cars increases, with more than 140,000 battery electric vehicles in use in Japan as of March 2023. On the Udemy platform, nearly 7,000 learners in Japan have been enrolled in electric vehicle-related courses in Q4 2023.

Udemy offers Udemy Business licenses to specific groups across McLaren Racing’s people, empowering its team with flexible and effective learning opportunities, and driving the upskilling and performance of McLaren. The partnership is Udemy’s first venture into motorsports and underpins both brands’ shared ambition to deliver agile, expansive, and comprehensive learning and development opportunities to help individuals achieve better personal and business outcomes. Both McLaren and Udemy have shared values of high performance and high purpose, believing in delivering results and ensuring that the work they do can make a difference in the broader communities they serve.

Udemy also offers a series of unique courses with McLaren Racing where people can learn about their rich history, starting with the McLaren Racing 101 course filmed live from the McLaren Technology Centre: https://www.udemy.com/course/official-mclaren-racing-101/?persist_locale=&locale=ja_JP.
