Announcing first phase of international pricing

More than two thirds of Udemy students live outside of the United States, so it’s long been a priority to make the learning experience on Udemy as global (and localized!) as possible. To that end, we’re excited to announce the first phase of international currency pricing!

Here’s the scoop: By January 31st, both the iOS and Android Udemy app will display courses priced in international currencies. For example, if a student lives in India, their Udemy app will display prices in Rupees; if a student lives in France their Udemy app will display course prices in Euros. Instructors’ revenue share and take-home amount will not change, nor will they be responsible for VAT and calculating exchange rates (both VAT and the exchange rate will be calculated into the student’s purchasing price). In fact, the ease of purchasing should help boost instructors’ course sales with students in other countries.

Please note that the exact date of the release is dependent on the length of the Apple and Google App Approval process.

Over the next year, we’ll be rolling out new currencies for all of the purchasing channels (purchases through the website, for example). This will happen in phases (one currency at a time) and we’ll keep everyone updated on status. More to come!
