Udemy and Mila team up to accelerate responsible AI skills for the global workforce

Artificial intelligence is reshaping how we work, think, and create—but for many organizations, the pace of innovation is rapidly outpacing their teams’ readiness. AI adoption is skyrocketing, yet skills, governance, and ethical frameworks haven’t kept up, creating growing operational, strategic, and compliance gaps. To help close this divide and ensure AI is applied thoughtfully and responsibly, Udemy is proud to announce a new partnership with Mila, a leading global AI research institute helping individuals and organizations build essential skills to adopt AI technologies responsibly, ethically, and effectively.

Founded by Turing Award winner and AI pioneer Yoshua Bengio, Mila is globally recognized for its cutting-edge research and leadership in Responsible AI. Together, Mila and Udemy are developing learning experiences that combine technical understanding with real-world ethical frameworks—equipping today’s professionals to navigate and learn AI with the urgency, judgment, and accountability required in this rapidly accelerating era.

What to expect from this new programming

In January, Udemy and Mila will begin launching new content and learning programs that put responsible AI into action—equipping learners and companies alike with the tools to innovate thoughtfully, inclusively, and sustainably.

This will include:

  • Courses on Responsible AI, ethics, governance, and practical decision-making
  • Applied training on integrating responsible practices into professional workflows

Designed for business leaders, technical teams, marketers, and more, this programming meets learners where they are—across industries, roles, and regions. Together, we’re shaping a more skilled, ethical, and future-ready workforce—powered by AI, built for humans.

Why responsible AI skills matter now

According to Udemy research, demand for AI learning has surged dramatically—AI course enrollments for technologies like generative AI, Microsoft Copilot, and GitHub Copilot have grown between 3,400% and 13,500% year over year, underscoring how quickly employees are trying to catch up. Yet readiness still lags: only 41% of employees feel prepared to use AI tools, and 56% believe AI won’t impact their role, revealing a widespread blind spot in workforce awareness (according to a new study Udemy conducted with YouGov).

Meanwhile, few organizations have the governance structures they need. Enrollment in AI ethics and governance courses on Udemy grew 98% year over year, signaling heightened concern—but many companies still lack the frameworks to act. Third-party research reinforces these gaps: Microsoft reports that 70% of companies struggle to equip employees with essential AI skills, and a global KPMG study found that over half of employees conceal their AI use and lack the training to evaluate outputs for accuracy or bias.

As a result, a widening disconnect between innovation and understanding has emerged—and there’s a growing need for education that blends practical AI skills with responsible implementation. This is the challenge Udemy and Mila are tackling together: helping organizations keep pace with AI while ensuring their teams are trained not just in the tools, but in the thinking, context, and responsibility required to use them safely and effectively.

A shared vision for the future of work

Mila brings deep expertise in academic AI research and policy, while Udemy brings a global platform used by 82 million learners and over 17,000 organizations around the world. By combining Mila’s insights with Udemy’s flexible learning model, we are building programming that’s grounded in academic rigor, delivered by real-world experts, and designed to scale across industries, roles, and regions. Through this new programming, individuals and organizations can:

  • Understand the foundations of Responsible AI—from how it works to how it impacts business
  • Implement AI ethically and securely
  • Build a responsible AI culture that enables innovation without compromising trust

This partnership isn’t just about technical training—it’s about shaping a future-ready workforce that’s equipped to lead with both capability and conscience.
