Software Engineer Manager, Event Tracking

About the Role

Udemy Event Tracking team is looking for an Engineering Manager to join our team!

You will lead the team that designs, builds, and integrates scalable systems and tools which  help us achieve our mission of improving lives through learning.

The Event Tracking team focuses on building and maintaining a world class scalable event collection system to help Udemy to collect high-quality data. Building and maintaining the Event Tracking system, you will play a role in enabling Udemy to be a data driven company.

The key technologies and concepts used in Event Tracking are; 
Apache Kafka, Apache Avro, Microservices, Kubernetes, Kotlin, Python, Apache Hive, SQL, ReactJS, Swift, Scrum, and many more...

Here’s what you’ll be doing:

  • Manage and scale the team.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and customers throughout the company to develop innovative solutions.
  • Communicate and align plans as well as dependencies to broader Engineering teams
  • Coach individuals, inspire creative thinking, and foster innovation with rigor in technical excellence  
  • Drive a learning environment for the organization and act as a mentor for engineers and leaders
  • Guide your teams in best practices around software development, documentation, coding standards, performance, fault tolerance, and scalability
  • Embrace our culture of collaboration, transparent, inclusive, respectful, feedback with open and direct communication
  • Research or prototype solutions and contribute to the codebase as needed

We’re excited about you because you:

  • Have 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Have 2+ years of engineering management experience, with a proven track record of building robust, scalable, distributed systems.
  • Have great track record of hiring top talents, mentor and grow talent
  • Have strong technical excellence plus experience with owning and shipping substantial product features that support consumer-scale web applications like Udemy.com
  • Have hands-on experience in design, architecture, and delivering robust, scalable features and services with solid technical vision
  • Have strong leadership, communication and problem solving skills
  • Are creative and not afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.
  • Are team-oriented, friendly, reliable, humble, receptive to feedback, and you gain satisfaction from helping others.
  • Have troubleshooting and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and effective communication skills.
  • Have the desire to keep learning and always seek to improve yourself and people around you.
