About The Role:
Udemy Event Tracking team is looking for new teammates to join our team!
You will design, build, and integrate scalable systems and tools which will help us achieve our mission of improving lives through learning. The Event Tracking team focuses on building and maintaining a world-class scalable event collection system to help Udemy to collect high-quality data. Building and maintaining the Event Tracking system, you will play a role in enabling Udemy to be a data-driven company. The key technologies and concepts used in Event Tracking are; Apache Kafka, Apache Avro, Microservices, Kubernetes, Kotlin, Python, Apache Hive, SQL, ReactJS, Swift, Scrum, and many more...
 
Here’s what you’ll be doing:
  • Design, build, maintain and monitor the Event Tracking System’s components.
  • Plan, organize, and complete work within agile sprints.  Communicate effectively on progress and meeting expectations.
  • Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and develop features and solutions that scale.
  • Use the best software development practices and processes to coach and mentor junior engineers to become proficient developers.
  • Contribute to a team culture that values openness, quality, robustness, and scalability while fostering innovation.
  • Identify and evaluate new technologies that improve performance, maintainability, and elegance of our software implementation.
  • Collaborate with external stakeholders and customers throughout the company to develop innovative solutions.

We’re excited about you because you:

  • Have 4+ years of hands-on software development experience in a team.
  • Have design and architecture knowledge, as well as familiarity with object-oriented design patterns.
  • Have a deep sense of quality, and sharp engineering skills with strong CS fundamentals in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  • Are self-driven, own your services by all dimensions and intrinsically have a desire to get things done.
  • Are creative and not afraid to step outside of your comfort zone.
  • Are team-oriented, friendly, reliable, humble, receptive to feedback, and you gain satisfaction from helping others.

Nice to haves:

  • Experience with any of Kotlin, Java, Python programming languages.
  • Experience in developing web applications.
  • Experience with Agile Software Development Practices (TDD, pair programming, continuous integration/delivery, etc.).
  • Familiarity with container orchestration technologies (Kubernetes, Marathon, etc.).
  • Experience working with  data processing frameworks and tools, such as Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Kafka, etc.
  • Experience with frontend technologies (React, Angular, TypeScript, CSS, etc.)
  • Experience working with cloud computing services providers (AWS, Google cloud platform, Azure, etc.).
  • Experience with testing methods, including unit, integration tests, and E2E tests.
